My days should have 48 hours
One of the blogs I follow for quite a long time is Career and Kids. Although I barely never left a comments, I like to read all the information there is about management of time while having a career or a full time job and kids.
This week I read a interesting post over there called Time wasters that caught my attention.
Being a full time worker from 9 to 18.30, time is not something I have to give away. I arrive home around 19.00 or 19:10, and I still have to cook dinner, baths, and do all the other stuff there is to do.
Like Elisabeth, I also gave up on TV (being online is not the same OK!), no time to watch TV.
What I find I could cut on and would save me some time (and patience too) are conversations like this:
- Me: Go upstairs and have a bath
- Son: I wanna see what’s on TV
- Me: Leave the TV
- Son: But I wanna see this
- Me: The bath is more important
- and this conversation goes on, goes on
This happens every day and it’s time consuming.
I guess I must establish a rule and as soon as he arrives home he gets his bath and then watchs TV. He’s 8 so he knows I end up letting him watch TV because I can’t continue arguing because I have to start making dinner, but I guess, if I establish that rule and don’t break it, he will get used to it and in a few weeks he’ll be taking his bath without a complaining word.
Another Time Waster is not having prepared the Menu for dinner. I end up asking the kids what they want and they end up asking for different things and I waste a lot of time deciding what to cook.
Bed time is time consuming once they never want to go to bed and specially my daughter wants me around while falling asleep. In this situation, having two floors doesn’t help once I have to be on the second floor while they are falling asleep and I end up not coming down anymore to do other stuff.
Are you a working mother? How do you manage your time?

It can be hard sometimes, huh?

I’m not a working outside the home mom any more but I sure remember those days. Now because of my health problems I need things to run smoothly at home with my dd.
She’s almost 9 now. I had her write up a list of the things she needs to do each day to get ready. So instead of me telling her over and over to get dressed for school now I tell her to look at her list.
Doesn’t always work, but it saves me from repeating myself. I like that part!

I work outside my home 5 days a week. I manage my time by having a strict routine; weekly dinner menus; bulk cooking… and then constantly re-working something if it’s not working for me.
