I think the idea of a limited-access phone (mentioned above) is a very good idea, if you can arrange that. Oh how I dread these discussions in less than a decade from now. This was really cool because it was a real cell phone with awesome parental controls. It's a pay as you go service and she used it when she was 10 until this past spring when I decided to put her on our family plan. Kajeet allows the parent to go online and select black out time (hours during school for example) when the phone won't work. There are many other controls that I liked about it as well. I didn't really like those "for kids" phones, they're very limiting, most only allow 3-6 phone numbers to be programmed in. That just wasn't enough for us. My daughter got to beta test the kajeet.com cell phone service. This was really cool because it was a real cell phone with awesome parental controls.
