Final diagnosis: Parkinson Disease
I have got some news about my father. Last Tuesday it was requested my present as well as my mothers at the rehabilitation clinic where my father is. There are changes in the diagnosis.
The initial diagnosis was based on sporadic visits to his doctor and a neurologist. He was diagnosis with Alzheimer disease and probably Parkinson in the middle. After three weeks in this rehab clinic and after several exams, the diagnosis is Parkinson and no Alzheimer.
His medication was changed accordingly to the Parkinson and we already can see some improvements. Probably the two last years with a misleading diagnosis was a se back for him.
We were told that the two diseases, although very different they have a few similar symptoms that can mislead the diagnosis. Finally the doctors were able to reach a consensus and Parkinson disease it is.

It’s great that he does not have Alzheimer, cause it matters what meds they will give him, if he had had both. Some meds for Parkinson have bad effect on Alzheimer or vice versa.
Take care.
At least now you know what he really has and can focus on treating just Alzheimer as opposed to both. It will be tough though. Best of luck to you and your family.
