Update on my father
Next month it’s my father’s 80th birthday. Due to his Alzheimer disease, he is in bed for almost two years.
Two months ago, through a TV program, my mother had the information that there were rehabilitation medical centers available in a nearby cities. She went to the social security department, filled in the forms and submitted my father’s application.
Several procedures followed and finally the day came and my father went to the rehab center.
My mother was a little apprehensive to send him there although it is only for 3 months (or 6 months depending on the improvements he makes) but she realized that she needed time for herself and the rehab could be good for my father. She doesn’t want time to party or travel, she needs type to treat herself from several bone problems.
The change from his room to a clinic made my father sick. He got some virus and he is taken antibiotics. My mother used to take 1 hour or more to feed him at every meal, now that he is in the center and due to the virus he got, he is not eating well so yesterday they had to put a tube through his nose. Besides being fed through his mouth he is already being fed through the tube. Now, doctors are waiting for him to gain some weight and strength to start physiotherapy and other treatments that will make him feel better.
My mother is already feeling better, she can rest more without my father at home, although she does around 50 kilometers a day to visit him. She has already started the physiotherapy and for at least 3 months she will be more rested.
