Translation job needed English/Portuguese/English
I’m about to lose my full time job and I really don’t now what I want to do next. After almost 16 years working in the same office I feel I’m stuck in my carrier. The company never offered improvement courses, never did brainstorming reunions, I feel like I’m stuck in time. Probably it’s my fault because I let that happen and never got out of there to search for a better job.
I am full time at home now and everyday my head struggles with the next step I will take. I would love to work from home but I don’t know if that will be possible.
Having Portuguese tongue language and fluency in English I already sign up for two sites that offer translation assignments. I keep looking for job databases, checked the Entertainment workers job search to see some jobs related to writing and I’ll keep looking in the next weeks.
Do you have a successful blog that you want to translated into Portuguese to have more readership? I know google translator does that but it’s not 100% accurate there are always corrections to make. If you need or know someone needing translations from/to Portuguese/English/Portuguese feel free to contact me.

I’m so sorry to hear about your job loss. I don’t know of any translation work, but what about using the time to get more blogging work? I wish you the best.
Hey, I actually work as a freelance English to Portuguese translator from home (in Brazil). An let me tell you, I wouldn’t go back to an office even if they offered me twice as much as I make today (not to mention that working from home I’m making more money than I ever made in any office I’ve worked before).
Anyway… I just came to give you a tip. If you don’t know ProZ.com yet, I seriously recommend you check it out. It’s basically the central hub for the worldwide translation market on the internet. I specially recommend that you do a lot of reading on their forums – http://www.proz.com/forum.php – LOTS of great advice there on how the market works (generally) and how to get established, etc. It helped me a lot in the beginning.
Good luck!
Oh yes: and don’t rely that much on these freelance job boards. The rates they post on these boards tend to be what I like to call “starving rates”. This is a general guideline and by no means set in stone, but translators worth their salt usually charge anywhere between $0.08 to $0.16 per word. On these job boards it’s rare to find someone willing to pay more than $0.04. It’s all about slowly building your clientele.
