Uncontrollable Hood Fires

When I wake up in the morning what I first hear is the sound of the helicopters. This sound continues in and out during the day. No, we are not under fire, but the wood are. All over the country there are hundreds of fires consuming our pine trees, entire hoods, protected parks, eucalyptus and everything green. This is the truth…and …I’m sad.

Everybody knows that trees, hoods, forests, are the lungs of our planet but, it seems some people just don’t care. Green areas are decreasing at a high speed rate because, during Summer, pyromaniacs take action. They take advantage of heat waves and high temperatures to put their sickness into action. When they are caught, they go to jail a few months, sometimes only a few days because most of them are considered “not capable”. These people need treatment but they are released and they do it again.

I’m not saying we grab a badge printer and make an ID badge saying “pyromaniac person” and make the person use it, but they shouldn’t be released without proper psychological evaluation and treatment.

Some people just don’t get it. They are destroying the best we have, the things that give us oxygen, the lungs of the planet. I might sound dramatic but, I’m mad, I’m angry and I wish I could do something to stop the tree killing. We have beautiful green hoods where we can walk with our children and show them how beauty the nature is, how healthy  the air we breath there is but, some people are taking that away from us.

How can I explain my children why this happen? How am I going to explain them that their future is being destroyed?

I have to thank all the firefighters and volunteers that are working non stop on woods on fire. At least two European countries (Italy ans Spain) have sent us two Canadair planes each to help us fight this “war”.

Wow. Nice of Italy & Spain to help out. California always has issues with wildfires in the summer, also. Sad.

How scary! I’m in NH and earlier this summer we had a couple of days where we could smell and see the smoke from forest fires in Canada, hundreds and hundreds of miles away. It reminded me that what happens in my neighborhood can make a difference for good or for ill in hundreds of other neighborhoods.

I hope the fire fighters can put these fires out quickly and with no loss of life.

I live in Colorado and wild fires are a big problem, especially when there is a really dry summer. The firefighters truly are heroes.
